Creative Ways to Display Art in Your Home

Expand your art collection with three-dimensional items that add visual interest. Wooden masks, woven baskets, and vintage iron pieces can add the perfect finishing touches to a wall display. Look to charity shops or antique dealers for unique finds.

Odd numbers often look better when hung together, so don’t be intimidated to experiment with an asymmetrical salon hang.

1. Gallery Wall

Think outside the box when it comes to displaying art in your home. Instead of choosing one piece as the focal point for each room, arrange your art so it stands out among furniture and accessories – such as pairing modern paintings with vintage vases for example.

A gallery wall can be an exciting way to display family photos or special souvenirs from travels, but beware not to allow its arrangement to become chaotic; aim for harmony between all aspects of your collection from matting and framing through layout.

Lay out your gallery on the floor before affixing any frames to your walls to ensure its cohesive look, or try using a cardboard template as a test bed first.

2. Art Shelves

If hanging wall art isn’t your cup of tea, there are still ways you can display artwork in your home. One simple approach would be using shelves such as those found in mantels, cabinets and bedrooms to display prints, paintings or photographs framed.

Picture ledges can be an ideal way to display multiple pieces at once and you can mix and match with decorative items like vases, candlesticks or boxes for an eye-catching layered display. When placing items this way try placing items forwards and backwards so as to achieve a balanced aesthetic.

If you prefer nailless decorating methods, try using wood skirt hangers or Japanese washi tape to attach your art pieces directly onto the shelf! This approach makes for an engaging way to give your shelf decorating a fresh new look!

3. Gallery Wall

A gallery wall is an effective way to present art, but be wary that if not planned properly it can quickly look disorganized or chaotic. A bit of careful planning and a strong spirit level can go far towards creating a cohesive display.

Mix frame styles to keep your gallery lively. Start by including two modern options (such as black or white frames) before introducing one more ornate style for variety.

If your walls are tall enough, consider going all-the-way-up with your gallery display. This dramatic approach can transform flea market finds and iPhone photos into museum-worthy art pieces. Don’t limit yourself to just hanging framed art; mix in objects like woven bowls, wooden masks and sculptures for even greater depth and interest in your gallery display.

4. Mantelpieces

Mantels provide an opportunity to display objects that are important and meaningful to you, creating an eye-catching statement in any room. One client collected rocks, which Buffy used as inspiration when creating her display on her mantel. Other collectables that work well include pinecones, dried branches/pods (love-in-a-mist or eucalyptus pods are great), seashells and even twigs and flowers arranged according to color or style theme; grouping them should also avoid triangle formation; ensure there are low, medium and high height arrangements so all aspects can be appreciated from every angle!

For an earth-toned mantel design, wooden candlesticks and antique-style plates make great additions. For something more informal, stack books or vintage postcards make great additions. Add an unexpected splash of green by placing either fresh or faux plants – either real or fake – in decorative vases, or including branches of eucalyptus or boxwood as part of the decor.

5. Wall Art

One piece of wall art can instantly enhance any room, yet finding ways to showcase its full potential can be tricky. Luckily, there are various creative and attractive displays for artwork on walls available today that can help bring it out in its best light.

Put together an eye-catching gallery wall by mixing and matching shapes and sizes to achieve balance or go for an eclectic selection.

Keep lighting in mind no matter your choice! A picture light can transform artwork into the focal point of the room; for maximum impact use a spot or directional ceiling light instead.
